Lyra-Harfen-Bausatz für Anfänger – Instrumentenbau zum Selbermachen

Häufig gestellte Fragen

• Do I need musical experience to play a lyre harp?

No musical experience is needed. The lyre harp is widely considered one of the easiest stringed instruments to learn. Here is why:

  • Pentatonic models (7-8 strings) are tuned so that every note harmonizes with every other note. It is literally impossible to play a "wrong" combination. You simply pluck and it sounds beautiful.
  • Diatonic models (10-19 strings) follow a natural major scale (typically C major). If you can hum a melody, you can play it on these lyres within days.
  • No reading music required. Most beginners learn through tablature (numbered strings) or by ear. Many customers tell us they play simple melodies within the first hour of unboxing.

Every lyre harp we sell includes a tuning wrench and a learning guide so you can start playing immediately. If you have never touched an instrument before, we recommend starting with a 7 or 8-string pentatonic model for the most forgiving and rewarding experience.

• How many strings should I choose?

We offer lyre harps from 7 strings up to 31 strings. The right choice depends on your goals, experience level, and how you plan to use the instrument:

7-8 Strings (Pentatonic) - Meditation, Sound Healing & Absolute Beginners

31 Strings - Full Professional Range

  • Maximum versatility with the widest note range in our collection.
  • Suitable for concert performance, studio recording, and advanced composition.
  • Available in premium tonewoods including African Yellow Sandalwood and North American Hard Maple.

Quick recommendation: If this is your first lyre and you want it mainly for relaxation and sound healing, start with 7-8 strings. If you want to learn and play songs, go with 16 strings. If you are an experienced musician or therapist, consider 19+ strings.

• How do I tune my lyre harp and how long does it take to settle?

Tuning your lyre harp is straightforward. Here is the complete process:

  What you need:

  • The tuning wrench included with your lyre (also called a tuning hammer).
  • A free chromatic tuner app on your phone (we recommend GuitarTuna or Pano Tuner). Simply pluck a string and the app tells you if it is sharp, flat, or in tune.

  How to tune:

  1. Place the tuning wrench on a tuning pin.
  2. Pluck the corresponding string while watching your tuner app.
  3. Turn the pin very gently - small turns make big pitch changes. Clockwise tightens (raises pitch), counter-clockwise loosens (lowers pitch).
  4. Repeat for each string. Most lyres are tuned to C major (C-D-E-F-G-A-B) starting from the longest string.

  The break-in period (very important):

New strings will go out of tune frequently for the first 1-2 weeks. This is completely normal for any stringed instrument. The strings need time to stretch and the tuning pins need to settle into the wood.

  • During the first week, tune your lyre once or twice per day, even if you are not playing. This helps the strings settle faster.
  • Do not be discouraged if it goes out of tune between sessions at first. This is expected and temporary.
  • After 1-2 weeks of regular tuning, your lyre will hold its pitch beautifully, often for days between sessions.
  • Pro tip: Turn the pins slowly and gently. Overtightening is the #1 cause of broken strings on new lyres.

Full tuning instructions with diagrams are included with every order.

• Can I use a lyre harp for sound healing and meditation?

Absolutely - the lyre harp is one of the most effective instruments for sound healing. Here is why practitioners and wellness enthusiasts around the world choose it:

  The science behind it:

  • Lyre harps produce frequencies in the 200-2,000 Hz range - the mid-range that our nervous system responds to most positively.
  • These frequencies naturally stimulate alpha brain waves (8-12 Hz), the same brain state associated with deep relaxation, meditation, and creative flow.
  • Studies on harp therapy show that listening to or playing harp music can lower cortisol levels, slow heart rate, and reduce anxiety.

  Historical roots:

In ancient Greece and Egypt, lyres were prescribed therapeutically. Patients received healing by listening to modal scales played on a lyre. The tradition of using stringed instruments for healing spans thousands of years across cultures.

  Best lyre for sound healing:

  • The 7-string pentatonic lyre is the top choice for healers. Every combination of notes creates natural harmony, so you can play intuitively without any training.
  • 7 strings also correspond symbolically to the 7 chakras, making it a natural fit for energy work.
  • Sound healers use lyres alongside singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks to create layered sound bath experiences.

  How practitioners use it:

  • Before meditation: Play 2-3 minutes of free-form lyre to help you (or your clients) drop into a meditative state faster.
  • During yoga: Gentle background playing during savasana or restorative poses.
  • Sound baths: Layer lyre harp with singing bowls and chimes for a multi-textured experience.
  • Personal relaxation: Simply strumming before bed can improve sleep quality significantly.
